Philosophical (includes religious) Reasons
No matter where military families live, there is a chance that each one’s philosophy of life may not be the same, or even similar to, that held by their next-door-neighbors. This difference of opinion often lies on either the right or left ends of the political spectrum, depending on the orientation of the surrounding community, and conflict because of that orientation may show up in school. Some of the differences come out only in a teacher’s explanation or emphasis during a lesson so that the ‘locally non-mainstream’ parent doesn’t even realize they are there. Conflict of information between two important authorities in a child’s life — teacher and parent — can be unsettling for the child and lead to conflict. The conflict may be within the family or in the child’s thoughts and responses at school.
